When I first opened the packaged and saw the book Devotional Stories for Tough Times part of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series I was a little disappointed because just like you tough times is not something you would normally want to read about. However after starting to read each devotional one at a time I was comforted. There is 101 Daily Devotionals so my original plan was to read 1 a day but that didn’t last long. I found myself reading 3-6 each day so I actually finished the book in less than 3 weeks.
Let me remind you I have small kids in my home so finding time to read can be a huge challenge however I do my best to keep a book on me at all time so when I do have a spare moment I can sneak in a couple of pages. Well with this book I actually made my kids and hubby wait on me to finish a page or two each time I started reading. Even if you are not going through tough times right now I bet you can relate too many of these stories and be encouraged to work through problems and know that time is a major factor to all tough times.
I was really encouraged by one of the stories about a man who was battling cancer and his wife. The husband was in such horrible pain they had a conversation about anger and breaking something and the wife told her husband to grab a plate and throw and smash it like he really means it. So he did yelling out loud that he hates the cancer. It was a freeing moment for the both of them.
I know for me sometimes I want to throw and break something. I have never felt what is like to have cancer but the idea of something happening to you and you have no control can be very devastating and glad this really helped the couple.
You can find this book at your local book store or online. I highly recommend it to be inspired thru tough times.
